Frequently asked questions

Baby Massage

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I MASSAGE MY BABY?

Massage your baby when you can make quality time for your baby. Once or twice a day would be great. But even if you massage your baby once a week, this is still better then not at all. Do what works for you and your baby!

WHEN SHOULD I MASSAGE MY BABY?

The best time would be when you and your baby are both happy and relaxed. Your baby should show you their lovely relaxed cues.

HOW LONG SHOULD I MASSAGE MY BABY?

Short but effective works best, so around 10 minutes. You could do some strokes on each part of the body or focus on 1 part of the body. Whichever works best for you and your baby. You don't always have to follow the whole routine as taught in the class.

HOW OLD DOES MY BABY HAVE TO BE TO COME TO YOUR BABY MASSAGE CLASSES?

Baby Massage classes at Love and Nurture are for babies from 8 weeks to crawling.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

All you need to bring is a towel for your baby to lay on and the usual things your baby might need like: a clean nappy, baby wipes, milk etc. I will provide mats, massage oil, refreshments, a goodie bag and send a weekly handout with the learnt routines.

WHAT IF I WANT TO ATTEND YOUR CLASS AND MY BABY ALREADY CRAWLS?

You are more than welcome to attend our class when your baby crawls, but he/she might need some extra breaks and more stimulation (which we can offer during the class) as crawling babies are often not that interested in laying down for longer periods of time.

WHAT IF MY BABY CRIES DURING THE MASSAGE?

If your baby cries, or is unsettled during the massage respond to your baby's needs. Your baby might feel a bit tired or just want to have a cuddle. Continue the massage when your baby is relaxed again. Don't worry about missing a part of the lesson as all the learned strokes will be repeated next week. It's better to give a 2-minute massage when your baby is happy and relaxed than a full body massage that he/she didn't enjoy.

WHAT IF MY BABY NEEDS A NAPPY CHANGE OR FEEDING?

Comfort your baby and respond to their needs. Our classes are baby-led and we only massage a baby when a baby is happy and comfortable. Don't worry about missing a part of the lesson as all the learned strokes will be repeated next week.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Wear something comfortable. Clothes that allow you to sit freely and feel relaxed and comfortable.
