Learn how to love and nurture your baby through the positive touch of massage.
Why massage your baby?
Baby massage is a gentle and loving way to bond, communicate and interact with your baby. Integrating massage into the parent and baby relationship has proven benefits for both parents and babies. It gives you the opportunity to communicate the emotions of love, security, comfort and support. It allows you to get a greater understanding of your baby’s subtle non-verbal language and gives you the ability to listen and observe your baby. When massaging your baby, a hormone called Oxytocin is released in both you and your baby. Oxytocin is also known as the ‘feel good hormone’ and will help to enhance the bond between parent and baby and secures a foundation of trust and security to develop a happy and confident relationship.
What are the benefits?
Relief - Massage can bring relief to a number of conditions your baby may suffer from and that can cause them discomfort. Tummy strokes and can relief colic and wind. It aids the movement of stool and breaks down air bubbles. Massaging the face can soothe teething pains and remove mucus.
Bonding - Bonding is a very important process between a parent and their baby. A strong bond has been shown to help support the emotional and social development of children. Baby massage enhances the bonding process in different ways. While massaging your baby you will talk to your baby, look at your baby, observe your baby and stimulate positive touch which encourage the release of oxytocin.
Relaxation - Massage is very important for aiding relaxation and reducing stress for both parent and baby. When you massage your baby, Oxycontin is released which is part of a group of hormones know as the 'feel good hormones'. These hormones help to lower the level of stress hormones. This will therefore promotes sleep, appetite and relaxation.
Stimulation and Development - Stimulation of the skin is crucial to the development of infants, as this is the most developed sense at birth. Baby Massage stimulates your baby's circulation, digestive system, body awareness and more. The use of songs during massage helps to develop baby’s sense of rhythm and promotes language development and communication between mother and baby.
